Fedia draws calmly on his cigarette when the director asks him to comment on God, Heaven and Hell or the Big Bang, which two scholars are “describing” in front of the camera. It’s the silence of the simple man that replies to them, while he scrutinises the quarry of which he is the watchman, the erosion of the rock by the wind. Fedia allegorically highlights the relative vanity of any undertaking of knowledge.
