Each year, a group of 1,800 retirees from Quebec move to the beaches of Florida like migrating birds fleeing the snow. Pompano Beach is paradise: palm trees as far as the eye can see, sunny days, country dancing lessons, bingo nights and swimming pools. A sort of slow-motion choreography sets the pace for the days in this microcosm formed by individuals having had very different lives. The Breezy Hill Resort residential complex works here like a pop setting straight out of the American dream, like a suspended space-time where the efforts of an entire life are absorbed into a golden retirement. The film listens to every story in an effort to better understand this rather particular society. Without judgement, Mika Goodfriend approaches these Snowbirds through a distanced perspective: he observes the gestures, routines, houses, the different spaces that make up this urban complex. A human fresco featuring those who have spent their lives building an artificial heaven on earth. A small-scale replica of western society.
