A mother conditioned by the culture of the country in which she was born, her depression, and her illness. A daughter, who takes care of her, but who does not want to follow in her footsteps, and who needs freedom, transgression. A connection that unfolds as feelings and years pass. The story, in words and images, at times flamboyant, at times inward-looking, submerges its audience in memories and carries it away on a wave of emotions. With a film that is both intimate and visionary, the filmmaker questions filiation and what it means to be a family, across three generations. “It’s a film about the meaning of a life”, says Dominique Margot. With the help of archives, interviews with her mother’s loved ones, reconstructions and sets of images, she achieves a purely cinematographical evocation, where the creative aspect opens up the field of memories to the representation of a world, a culture, a human, genetic or social transmission. Behind the film, behind the little history of the filmmaker, the great history of Switzerland is sketched out…
