Jan Jedlička is one of the best kept secrets in the world of art. He was born in Prague in 1944, where he studied painting at the academy before immigrating to Switzerland in 1969. He turned to photography rather late in his career. Jedlička’s work has been exhibited at museums and galleries throughout Europe, but holds a very special connection to Switzerland where his work has been exhibited at the Kunstmuseum and Kunsthalle in Winterthur. He lives between Italy, Zurich and Prague. Petr Zaruba’s extremely insightful film is a completely different kind of artist portrait. The director tries to convey through cinematic and formal choices the complexities of Jedlička’s creative strategies. Thus, the film becomes an intertwined dialogue bet-ween two artists who listen and observe each other at work. “Settle down, stay quietly in the landscape and learn how to watch. If there is nothing interesting and obvious at the first sight, go deeper, under the surface”.
