Lorello and Brunello Biondi are twins and both live and farm in Pianetti di Sovana, a small place located in the southern part of Tuscany. They have worked tirelessly their whole life. Relentlessly. Even though their life and time is absorbed by hard work, and they barely pay attention to anything outside of it, they are on the verge of economic collapse. Farming is undergoing major changes and the economy itself is in full transformation. Jacopo Quadri, Gianfranco Rosi’s editor, films with an extraordinary human compassion, the lives of two men who are bound to be forgotten by society. The careful observational approach, the finetuned insight in a world whose knowledges are passed on from a generation to another one, the precise camera work are the distinguished elements of a film that recalls the works of Vittorio De Seta and Ermanno Olmi. Glimpses and sketches of everyday life told with neo-realistic cinematic flair.
