A young filmmaker of Italian origin returns to Città della Pieve, the commune in Umbria where he grew up. He attempts to discover the secret of a mysterious event that occurred one night on his way back home. But his research, which soon leads to a world of old local traditions, also raises a question of identity that is above suspicion.
A young filmmaker of Italian origin returns to Città della Pieve, the commune in Umbria where he grew up. He attempts to discover the secret of a mysterious event that occurred one night on the way to the house. But his research, which was supposed to draw him into the world of legends, soon leads to a set of old local traditions. In fact, Città della Pieve is home to a large popular fête called “Il Palio dei Terzieri” that it organises each year. The Terzieri (Borgo Dentro, Casalino, Castello) are the three districts of the medieval town. Although they date back to the 13th Century, the Palio, a kind of corrida, came into being between the 15th and 16th Centuries. It takes place in August and involves all the town’s inhabitants, dressed in old costumes from the Middle Ages. Confronted by this tradition, the protagonist has to choose his affiliation and ends up immersed in a question of identity that has no possible solution. A personal film that, between folklore and feelings, takes the form of a lovely documentary comedy.
