A snapshot of a new, post-apartheid generation of South Africans who still have to fight for their future.

In a rundown township near Johannesburg, three young people from troubled family backgrounds support themselves by dancing in a group called taxido, headed by Jerry who, besides being their manager and choreographer, is also their point of reference. Seipati, 16, lives with her grandmother and is proud of her ballerina trophies. 19-year-old Venter is reliable and ambitious, while ladies’ man Tshidiso, 20, is always on the phone dealing with his 11 girlfriends. Back in their hovels after rehearsals, they face the daily grind of poverty. Through dance and his extremely strict teaching methods, Jerry wants to keep them well away from the street and from violence. The group’s camaraderie brings them ever greater success, until the youngsters start to rebel, to cultivate other interests and to have new aspirations. Director Irene Loebell has created a character-driven snapshot of a new, post-apartheid generation of South Africans who are full of life and hope, but who still have to fight for future prospects.
