At the hospital, the nursing staff appraise their methods through role-play with actors. The empathy required to tell a patient that they have cancer, or care for their loved ones, requires practice. As does mindfulness towards burned-out colleagues. After That Which Does Not Kill (VdR 2019), Alexe Poukine probes the hospital milieu and the symptoms of a structural crisis.

The hospital environment embodies the harshness and seriousness of reality – it is not usually associated with fiction or play. And yet, in Switzerland, theatre is used in some aspects of training for students and professionals throughout their careers. An actor plays the patient, a script frames the scene, and it's up to the nursing staff to perform. Alexe Poukine shows us these workshops aimed at fine-tuning the practice of empathy and deconstructing the prejudices that can undermine the accuracy of a medical analysis. In order to arrive at the raw truth, it is necessary to lay bare the preconceived ideas about bodies and lifestyles that are conveyed by society. With this new subject, the filmmaker expands on the themes of her previous film, Sans frapper (VdR 2019). Once again exploring the process of reenactment, she underscores the power of listening and speaking. Sauve qui peut highlights the suffering of carers subjected to the liberalist system, journeying towards the question of individual responsibility in the face of a "system of widespread abuse".
