In the Latvian countryside lives Theodore. Every day, come rain or shine, he used to bike the seven kilometres from his house to the village centre to sit and drink beer at the bus stop. For him, no doubt, this place was the centre of the universe. With his death, the centre has moved elsewhere, and the bus stop is just a bus stop again.

Theodore is an old man. He takes his time in doing what he has to do, but is as peaceful as determined. He examines his bike and starts his daily trip through the fields on a radiant spring day, just as he does in the middle of a snow storm in winter. His arrival point is a bench in the village, where people of all ages wait for the bus, and also meet, talk, play. It is a living spot of the village. It is Theodore’s favorite spot. It is from there that he watches the world through his glasses. “Every day, come rain or shine, Theodore used to bike the seven kilometers from his house to the village centre to sit and drink beer at the bus stop. For him, no doubt, this place was the centre of the Universe. With his death, the centre has moved elsewhere, and the bus stop is just a bus stop again.” Laila Pakalnina
