The nomadic poet of Armenian cinema
Author of essential works and immune to the artificial differentiation between documentaries and fiction, Harutyun Khachatryan has, with a dozen films, put Armenia back on the contemporary map for cinephiles. Moreover, he is the Director of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival, one of Caucasia’s most important festivals. With his films, he has successfully restored the dialogue between History and cinematographic action by placing the Armenian diaspora into the framework of the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
