Le meraviglie is a poetic tale, filled with light and dreams (Grand Prix, Cannes 2014).

Summer is coming to an end in Umbria. Rather than being on holiday, Gelsomina and her three younger sisters are helping their beekeeper father with his honey production. This nature-loving, demanding head of the family is fighting with his neighbours to preserve their small farming methods and their freedom. Whilst their mother Angelica (Alba Rohrwacher) tries to temper her husband’s irritability and extravagances, their industrious daily life is disrupted when they hire Martin – a young offender who has been sent to the family for rehabilitation – and by the arrival of reality television show, “The Village of Wonders”, which is searching for the family that can provide the best illusion of a traditional peasant existence. The charms of the show's presenter (Monica Bellucci) convince Gelsomina to apply, in an attempt to save the family farm from bankruptcy. Without being autobiographical, Alice Rohrwacher tenders a very personal film, inspired by her own world. A story of the love between a father and a daughter, the transmission of an ideal of life and of a freedom that cannot be bought.
