20 Years of School Video Festival

20 ans de Festival vidéo des écoles

Pierre-Yves Jetzer
Switzerland | 2014 | 36 min
World premiere
Language : French
Subtitle : French

Since 1989, the Schools & Media Service of the Department of Public Education, Culture and Sport has organised a video and multimedia festival in the form of a competition. Students from the schools are invited to direct a film of a maximum length of 3 minutes on a given subject. This film, made up entirely of extracts from pupils’ films, partially evokes the first twenty editions of this festival. Testament both to an era and to technological development, it offers a journey through time. Its director watched around 320 short films in order ultimately to select extracts from 23 of them. Since its beginnings in 1989, almost 2,000 pupils have taken part in the festival and some 500 films have been made on themes as different as “proverbs”, “the book and the screen”, “'interview” or “sleep”. “Behind this invitation to direct a film lies mainly a pedagogical objective: media education using the media. The imagination, originality and also group work must be the key principles of each and every project.” (PYJ)
