Through ten years of a loving relationship recorded on several audio tapes, the filmmaker shares his mother’s confessions to his father during the civil war years. The account is juxtaposed with images from today and from the past, thus creating a unique space where the words of an intimate diary become a collective memory.

Through ten years of a love relationship recorded on several audio tapes and sent like love letters, the filmmaker shares the confessions and declarations made by his mother, Maream Hmadeh, to his father, Rashid Ghossein. Married during the civil war years, they were then separated by Rashid’s time abroad looking for work. During his father’s long absences, little Ahmad pictured him as a war hero fighting for the Communist Party. The film opens with amateur images recorded during a wedding, inevitably bearing the signs of the times, which immediately plunges the audience into the moving pages of a family album. The oral account is juxtaposed with these images from the past and with contemporary images, thus creating a unique space where the words of an intimate diary become a collective memory.

The film was made at the request of the Sharjah Art Foundation, emphasising its experimental approach, which lies at the crossroads of cinema and contemporary art.
