In the Norwegian countryside, Maria and Nik live happily and freely with their three young children. Close to nature, virtually self-sufficient, the five of them cultivate an exceptional family bond. But when fate suddenly snaps them out of their idyll, they will have to consider a new way of life and stick together like never before.

On a small farm in the Norwegian countryside, Maria and Nik live happily and freely with their three young children. With homeschooling, outings in the woods and a vegetable garden that allows them to be virtually self-sufficient, the five cultivate an exceptional family bond, in a spirit of contented simplicity that remains as close to nature as possible. Maria, whose job as a photographer enables them to make ends meet, keeps a blog in which she documents this family idyll, in which everything is built around an attunement to the living world. But a sudden illness takes Maria's life. Nik, the three children and their half-sister, Ronja, must face up to this grief, which imposes an additional burden. A lack of resources forces Nik to sell the farm and move his family closer to society. He even plans to send the children to school. Silje Evensmo Jacobsen captures the trials and tribulations of this magical family with great grace and tenderness, and their energy and love ensure that they continue to keep the promise they made to each other: to live free and wild.
