The film is an intimate look into the lives of four people who live on Big Moccasin Rd., a 20-mile stretch of pavement in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia. Like an old and lost alt-country record by Will Oldham, the film digs deep into a lost world whose haunting memories and presences still linger in the very fabric of American culture.

Directed by Chelsea and Andrew Moynehan, the film is an intimate look into the lives of four people who live on Big Moccasin Rd., a 20-mile stretch of pavement in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia. Geraldine Frazier is a devout Baptist who awaits her death so she can join her husband in the family cemetery in her backyard. Mouse, a small man of incredible strength, is the go-to survival guide of mountain life. Steve Burke and Polo are two friends who share a raw vision of mountain living. Even though their friendship has survived for many years, a sad event puts it in a difficult place. Realized with an astonishing intimacy, the film is a slice of Americana that recalls some of the most eloquent pages of Edgar Lee Master’s ‘Spoon River Anthology’. Like a forgotten alt-country record by Will Oldham, the film digs deep into a lost world whose haunting memories and presences still linger in the very fabric of American culture. A close-up vision of Appalachian life, focused on the richness of simplicity, the fragility of life, and the inevitability of death.
