Tristan Forever

Parisian doctor Loran witnessed enough pain and injustice while working with Médecins Sans Frontières and found a safe harbour in the mesmerising Atlantic island of Tristan da Cunha, the most remote inhabited place on our planet. After years of regular visits, the dream of joining the couple of hundred permanent residents becomes too strong to resist. In a world on fire, there is a certain escapist appeal to the prospect of a place far away from everything, where the only threats are intrusive penguins and the risk of a volcanic eruption. The last one, in 1961, caused the evacuation of the Tristanians, who, after a forced stay in London, were disgusted and decided en masse to return to their peace and isolation. Loran understands them perfectly, and arrives with a piano as his spectacular dowry, to embark on a journey of integration and acceptance by the self-sufficient community. He works hard, seeks company, and sleeps, sleeps a lot. Perhaps the Tristan da Cunha we see exists only in his dreams and in the film that, as subject, co-writer and executive producer, he imagined with Nölle.
