In an isolated village in the high plains of southern Georgia, three lifelong friends from the Armenian community discuss their future. Torn between family expectations and personal desires, tradition and change, and facing economic and geopolitical uncertainty, here are three life stories that remain to be dreamed and written, somewhere between a documentary and a visual poem.
In an isolated village in southern Georgia, on the high plateau near the Armenian border, the lives of three lifelong friends from the Armenian community begin to take different paths as they come of age: Henrikh, with his nose in his books or glued to the news of the invasion of Ukraine on TV, dreams of a Georgia closer to Europe and of leaving for Tbilisi to study international relations. Karlen, burdened by family obligations and tasked with caring for his parents’ farm animals, dreams of Moscow, believing he can achieve independence through whatever work he might find there. Hagop, on the other hand, is more focused on finding his place in the village – his work at the dairy and the Orthodox tradition. And yet, he still feels a draw to the outside world, embodied by his love, Monika, a dance teacher living in Tbilisi who exists only through his phone. Between life in the present and visions of the future, between traditions, beliefs and family ties, three life stories remain to be dreamed and written, rendered through a keen sense of visual composition and skilful editing, somewhere between documentary and visual poetry.
