Archival images of a bride are interwoven with dialogue from Manoel de Oliveira’s film Vale Abraão (1993), in which Pedro warns Ema about the role that will be assigned to her in this patriarchal society, in which she must learn the “art of illusion”. Unless she manages to find her inner Emma Bovary, embracing disobedience and defying the path that has been laid out for her.
