Il suono del mio passo

Having crossed an alpine lake by boat, a man sets foot in a wild region. He walks, he listens to the noises of the forest and he observes the trees and rocks. He contemplates the landscape. He notices anthropomorphic shapes, primordial echoes, correlations between man and matter. The real on screen is what he sees as well as the mirror of his thoughts, his imagination. The vision thus looms. And the forest becomes populated with fantastic encounters. His pantheist and sensorial journey thus becomes a philosophical reflection on the state of nature. In Walden; or, Life in the Woods, Henry David Thoreau wrote: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” Mario Piavoli, who worked with his father Franco, a great filmmaker of silent and poetic observation, seems to know these words well.
