Yugo Goes to America

Yugo Goes to America follows three young adults, born during the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s, as they journey across the U.S. in a Yugo—the iconic Yugoslav car once ridiculed in America as “the worst in history.” Beginning with archival footage and personal memories, the film’s protagonist, Filip, traces the rise and fall of the Yugo, intertwining it with his family’s story and the broader collapse of Yugoslavia. Blending documentary and playful fiction, the film features emblematic landscapes from Westerns, a mock Yugo wedding in Vegas, and a spectacular burning finale in LA.
