Something Familiar

While helping a friend search for her birth mother, British-Romanian filmmaker Rachel is drawn back into her own family history. What begins as an outward act of support turns inward, confronting her own history of abuse and exploitation. As an international search for her missing sisters unfolds, the film takes an unexpected formal and emotional turn—transforming a personal investigation into an act of self-authorship, and asking whether cinema can offer a way to break inherited narratives and rewrite the story of her own life.
