The Ballad Of Bessie Mae is about escapism. It’s a space where adults can play, often referred to as LARP (Live Action Role Play), where they can create worlds that appease their imagination. Taking them away from the everyday, via characters and environments that they have composed. These fabricated worlds, that provide community and hope, often mirror real life. The hard work and craftsmanship that is necessary reflects a different burden, one where the temperance of the escape is all too obvious. Buildings are constructed and torn down, nature is respected but also abused, friendships are found through fictional characters and strengthened via real life challenges. On a daily basis we all create aspects of ourselves to convince others who we are. This community enhances those feelings into characters that live in custom built villages and fluctuate through fantasies. An axe wielding dwarf, a cyborg warrior and Bessie Mae, a lone woman from a Western town.
