The dissemination of mini-DVs in the early 1990s had, among other consequences, the effect of transforming the relationship with "familial" archives. While these remained rare in the days of film, they have since become plentiful as the act of filming (oneself) has become, in a way, commonplace. In parallel, some filmmakers choose to approach their own filiation, or another person’s familial situation, by using formal choices that enhance the starting material. Does staging one's own story allow one to move from particular (auto)fictions to more universal narratives?
Participating filmmakers: Pablo Lago Dantas - O auto das ánimas (International Feature Film Competition); Sara Dolatabadi - An Owl, a Garden & the Writer (Burning Lights Competition); Catarina Mourão - Astrakan 79 (Burning Lights Competition); Anna Dziapshipa - Self-Portrait Along the Borderline (International Medium Length & Short Film Competition); Otilia Babara - Love Is Not an Orange (Highlights).
