Visions du Réel is thrilled to announce the appointment of Alice Burgin as its new Head of Industry. With over fifteen years of experience in film production, markets, festivals and film criticism, Alice Burgin will play a crucial role in strengthening and further developing the internationally recognised VdR-Industry platform, leveraging her extensive expertise in the world of non-fiction film.

Alice Burgin brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the international film industry, specialising in non-fiction cinema. She is best known for her role as the CEO/Conference Director of the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) where she oversaw over one million dollars of project funds and skills development training invested into the documentary storytelling. Following her time there, she took on the role of Head of Documentary at Sweetshop & Green, an Australian/New Zealand production company dedicated to creating local film projects for international audiences.
Over the course of her career, Alice has held key roles in programming and selection committees for renowned film festivals and broadcasters, such as the Melbourne International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and PBS’ flagship documentary program POV. Additionally, she has served as a jury member for prestigious documentary film festivals, including Hot Docs, DocAviv, Sunny Side of the Doc, Antenna Documentary Festival, and more.
In addition to her industry work, she has completed a double-badged doctoral degree in French Studies with the University of Melbourne and the Université de Paris X and published numerous articles on her research. Her PhD. investigated the impact of French involvement in the production and circulation of Francophone West African films in the twenty-first century.
Visions du Réel is immensely pleased to start working with Alice Burgin, whose high profile will grant Nyon with both a sound knowledge of the European Industry, and a network and understanding that goes far beyond it, allowing VdR–Industry to expand further in all directions, artistically as well as professionally.
