Sound and silent

In "soud and silent" Toshio, (72), and Shizuko Omiro, (75), a couple and improvisation duo living in Kawasaki, Japan, since 1981, are portrayed, who until old age express a world view with their music that vehemently opposes materialistic thinking and any commercialization. The 'poles' SOUND and LEISE tell of their development from punk musicians to activists, in the peace and antinuclear movement, as well as of their path as a couple. Throughout their lives, they navigated a free-spirited lifestyle through a Japanese society characterized by pressure to conform, which also left its mark on the life of their son Sabu. In doing so, they followed their vision of changing the world into a more peaceful one in an unadapted and also unseemly way until the very end. In the playful development of their individual selves as musicians and as a couple also reflects the realization of transience as the essence of of being alive.
