TRANSITION AND HAPPINESS

Rosa María grew up in a conservative upper-middle-class family. The social circumstances led her to behave like a man, but intimately and secretly she felt like a woman. For many long decades she displayed a whole host of typically virile, even macho, gender behaviours. In her masculine guise, she married and divorced twice and had two daughters. At 57 she decided to come out and, two years later, underwent genital reassignment surgery. Apart from surgery, she makes little effort to appear feminine; perhaps because that effort is barely worth it considering the strong masculine characteristics of her body and voice. But this fact does not prevent her from empowering herself as a woman.This film relates the reactions of her relatives and of the social and political environment. Alongside her friend Fina, they walk this path of light and shadow in their struggle to conquer the desired status of being a woman and to achieve full recognition on the part of society.
