The fair in Sonepur, India, has been Asia’s largest animal market since ancient times. Today, it is home to a strange amusement park. Populated by characters showcasing their performance skills, this site becomes the centre of countless wonders, as well as a great many dangers. A film conceived like a merry-go-round: once you’re on it, it will make you dizzy.

The fair in Sonepur, in the Indian state of Bihar, has been Asia’s largest animal market since antiquity. Here you can find and buy elephants, birds, horses or camels. It is home to a distinctive amusement park, populated by characters showcasing their performance skills. “Like the figures of tarot cards, they are the symbolic face of the fair: the Rider, the Exorcist, the Dancer, the Stuntman or the Mahut (elephant trainer). On stage, each of them will put on his finest show to keep the crowd of daily spectators happy, these thousands of pilgrims in search of ecstasy, thrills or signs from fortune.”(Gaspard Kuentz, Cedric Dupire). Although the site seems like the centre of countless wonders, as well as a great many dangers, the camera of the two filmmakers stops at nothing, even becoming part of the show, the risk, the adventure. The viewer will thus be seized by wonder before this film that carries you like a merry-go-round — beware, once you’re on it, the dizziness never stops.
