Martin knows something about the financial crisis.  And with good reason. Today is the last day for him at the Kolga-Jaani Command Unit. He is been working with the unit for the past six years. Now Martin will lose his job due to a national cost-savings plan. Situated in a remote Estonian settlement, Martin wanders through the empty rooms of his workplace enacting his daily routine for the last time.

The official media report the financial crisis on a daily basis: who the culprits are and why, according to their own agenda. But they never show us the results of what it means to live in a time where the economy rules the lives of millions of people more than ever in any other historical context. Martin knows something about the financial crisis. And with good reason. Today is his last day at the Kolga-Jaani Command Unit where he has worked for the past six years. Now Martin will lose his job due to a national cost-savings plan. Situated in a remote Estonian settlement, Martin wanders through the empty rooms of his workplace enacting his daily routine for the last time. He checks the trucks, the radio and he drinks his coffee. When his day is over, he closes shop and leaves for good. Martin is now out of work. Side Lõpp shows the consequences of cost-savings plans without uttering one word. Framed like a silent and surrealist one-reeler, Side Lõpp is a film about dignity and resilience.
