When a mysterious Being in a near future discovers a world devoid of humans, it sets off to find out the cause of humanity’s collapse. Following clues retrieved from the past – voice recordings made with prominent scientists before the extinction – the Being films and creates its own documentary, Hungry. What seemingly begins as an environmental film, soon evolves into a scientific “criminal” investigation, revealing a hidden chain of cause and effect. As the Being searches for leads to the perpetrators of the extinction, its film discloses what led to the destruction of food security, to the deterioration of labor markets, to the hijacking of democratic governments and to decline in democracies. A closing twist in the Being's film reframes everything we’ve seen. Could something still be done to save humanity?
Hungry’s radical use of scientific findings without talking heads is a cinematic call to action aiming to prevent this future from becoming our own.
