22 April
10:30 - 12:00
Musée du Léman
Free without reservation
Discussion in English
How can documentary practice engage with "being together" without giving in to sociological bias, what Gilles Saussier calls "pinning people down to their wallpaper and decorum"? For Saussier, the photographer's role is to open up a more ambiguous space of identification, one where viewers are free to choose their own place in relation to what they see. Can – and should – contemporary documentary cinema "build community"? Can it act as a space that resists the atomization of individuals, and the indifference and tyranny that follow from it?
Speakers:
Benjamin Bucher & Juliette Menthonnex (dir. Der Runde Tisch)
Olga Chernykh (dir. The Illusion of a Quiet Night)
João Dumans (dir. The Night and the Days of Miguel Burnier)
Mohamad Hafeda (dir. The Interpreter)
