Swiss entrepreneur Cäsar Dubler lives life to the fullest. He emigrates to Barcelona in 1908, builds a prosperous textile business, and is later swept up in upheaval—revolution, expropriation, and exile during the Spanish Civil War. In 1939, the Dubler family returns to Barcelona, where Cäsar rebuilds his life and work under Franco’s dictatorship.
The filmmaker’s journey through Switzerland and Catalonia follows the fragile traces of the Dubler family’s past, featuring Cäsar Dubler’s grandchildren as the last custodians of intimate family memories. Through family albums, silenced recollections, and archival fragments, the documentary slowly reassembles the past, tracing one family’s passage through Catalonia’s eventful history and the legacy of a once-thriving factory.
