As part of Visions du Réel, Doc Outlook-International Market (DOCM) has established itself as one of the most important international meetings for cinéma du réel.

More than 700 participants from 35 different countries attended DOCM 2009. Buyers and distributors used DOCM as a platform for acquiring film rights and professionals took advantage of the various Co-production Market offerings, the seminars and panel discussions.

The diversity and quality of DOCM, which are achieved by a highly efficient reception system and instruments using the latest technology (all the viewing stations are equipped with iMac and 16/9 screens) ensure optimal working conditions for professionals and foster contacts for the financing and promotion of films.

The DOCM activities are centered on three main events:

- The Market screenings and Breakfasts
- The Co-production Market: Pitching du Réel, One-on-One-Meetings and Pitching TSR: Perspectives d'un Doc
- The Think Doc Tank: seminars and panel discussions

Market Screenings and Breakfasts

Thanks to their constantly-updated digital viewing system, the Market Screenings offer a choice of about 250 films from the exciting diversity of creation in cinéma du réel, highlighting the new European and international productions through a demanding and curious selection.
In addition to the films presented in the sections of the festival (80% of them are available in the Market Screenings), the special Market selection is also worth discovering. It is closely linked to the Festival’s editorial line, while respecting criteria favourable for TV broadcasting.

As part of the Market Screenings, Swiss Films will be presenting a selection of Swiss films likely to benefit from international distribution.



Furthermore, an attractive selection of the new independent productions in Central and Eastern Europe will be presented by International Documentary Film Festival Jihlava. As for the Dok-Leipzig festival, it offers a selection of the new German productions.


Organized by Swiss Films, the Breakfasts bring together by invitation the players of the Market Screenings and the Co-production Market to encourage individual meetings.

Co-production Market

DOCM organizes international co-production meetings, while Pitching du Réel – which is devoted to full-length films – is organized in cooperation with EDN (European Documentary Network). All the participants are entitled to speak, opinions are sought equally from those in charge of marketing films and from television channels and other sources of financing.
For the One-on-One-Meetings shorter-duration films will also be admitted.

The selected projects, which have an artistic ambition and a potential on the main sales markets, are the work of both experienced, acknowledged film-makers and talented, young film directors and can be presented in their initial stages of development. Think Doc Tank

The Think Doc Tank is a forum for reflection and debate geared to observing the realities of the audiovisual market – which is constantly changing in terms of film marketing –, reflection and comparison of ideas and practices. These discussions are professionally prepared and moderated, with documentation and good people skills.

The Agora, with our partner SRG SSR idée suisse, offers a wide-ranging debate on issues connected mainly with aesthetic and narrative concerns.

A number of panel discussions and seminars will also be held, moderated by audiovisual experts invited to review an issue or problem. The latter are closely linked to the topics that make the news in the changing audiovisual market. For further details please consult our web site regularly.
