The main character of Height of the Kite is Fariba, a biracial teenage girl with a native Baloch race on her father's side and an Afro-Asiatic race on her mother's side. Her mother and she live in a remote village on the outskirtof Chabahar City. Her mother, Shemshouk, is an accomplished Afro-Asian singer who makes a living by singing in the local women's rituals. Fariba accompanies her mother in these rituals and dreams about singing and performing in public. Fariba's half-brother, Nasim-Ali, is a native Baloch and a famous singer and musician in Balochistan. Fariba adores Nasim-Ali and considers him her older half-brother. Fariba is enthusiastic about singing and playing musical instruments like Nasim-Ali and wants to draw his attention to her talent. Dreaming of becoming a singer, Fariba watches her half-brother's music videos daily. Finally, she travels to Chabahar City to audit a talent show in which Nasim-Ali performs, but the meeting does not go as Fariba expected.
