Hot Cold Wet Dry is a portrait of life in an era of global polycrisis, depicted through a cinematic psychogeography of Singapore. Composed of footage of everyday urban encounters, it offers a drifting, lingering gaze across the streets, buildings, atmospheres and liminal spaces of this tropical ‘smart’ metropolis. The byproducts of such city-making lurk in the background - climate catastrophe, extinction events, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the robotization of everyday life. Animals, plantlife, and other more-than-human life forms, the silent witnesses of these processes, look on as real trees are cleared to make way for enormous, artificial ‘supertrees’. They are built by migrant construction workers and maintained by migrant domestic laborers, largely hidden from public view. A narrative voiceover guides us through these contradictions, tracing a line between slow cinema and the slow violence of late capitalism in the form of large, resource-dependent cities
