Didier arbeitet auf einem Rinderhof. Er ist von Geburt an gehörlos und lebt allein in einem abgelegenen Haus auf dem Land. Seit dem Tod seines Bruders und einzigen Gefährten Claude sucht er Zuflucht in seiner Arbeit. Während der Betrieb eine Gesundheitskrise durchmacht, treibt Didier ein drängendes Verlangen an: seine Sprache neu zu erfinden, sich verständlich zu machen und seine Behinderung in eine Stärke zu verwandeln.

Didier works on a cattle farm in Auvergne. Deaf from birth and illiterate, the fifty-something-old lives alone in an isolated house in the countryside. Since the death of Claude, his brother and sole companion, he has had to face an immense emptiness. To avoid being engulfed by the isolation, Didier finds refuge in his work with the Maury family’s cows, for which he cares deeply. But the farm is hit by a crisis affecting the agricultural world and beyond Didier’s control. Surrounded by the mountains he cannot leave, Didier must confront his fears and learn to forge connections. Mathias Joulaud and Lucien Roux, a pair of talented young filmmakers (Ramboy, VdR 2023), capture his daily struggle in a world worn down by labour, regulations and health standards. Through carefully composed frames and inventive staging, we gradually enter Didier’s world – his language, but also his dreams – thanks to a remarkable sensory approach. A tender portrait characterised by mutual support and kindness, and a tribute to a peasant world on the verge of disappearing.
