Le film par lequel Audrius Stonys a d’emblée été remarqué au début des années 1990 est impossible à résumer, si ce n’est en convoquant l’ordre propre aux rêves ou celui de la libre associa- tion. Il met en scène, d’une part, deux aveugles : une vieille femme dont la photographie nimbe les cheveux argentés d’une blondeur paradoxale, qui fait quotidiennement le même trajet entre son logis et l’étable; un homme, guère plus jeune, traversant un paysage industriel abandonné pour se hisser au sommet d’une colline à bord d’un improbable véhicule à pédales. Le troisième protagoniste principal est une vache, qui attend sans le savoir, mais en le devinant, peut-être, l’abattoir. La bande-son est pleine de trous, de silences, de bruissements de réel lointains. Earth of the Blind, c’est la collision douce de séquences indépendantes les unes des autres, mais qui parviennent à créer de toutes pièces une conversation métaphysique au-delà des mots. La « terre » d’Audrius Stonys, c’est le cinéma, seul art à nous faire voir le monde intérieur des êtres, hommes ou animaux, comme les points aveugles de leur réalité.

The film by which Audrius Stonys immediately received attention at the beginning of the 1990s is impossible to summarise, other than by speaking about the unique world of dreams or that of free association. He depicts two blind people: an old woman, whose silver hair is wreathed by the photography in paradoxical blonde, who makes the same journey between her home and the stable every day; a man, scarcely younger, crossing an abandoned industrial landscape to pull himself up to the summit of a hill on board an improbable pedal-operated vehicle. The third main protagonist is a cow, which is waiting, without knowing, but probably guessing, for the abattoir. The soundtrack is full of holes, silences, distant rustlings of the real. Earth of the Blind is a soft collision of sequences that are independent from each other but that manage to create from start to finish a metaphysical conversation that goes beyond words. The “earth” of Audrius Stonys is film, the only art that lets us see the inner world of beings, men or animals, as the blind spots of their reality.

Der Film, der Audrius Stonys Anfang der 1990er-Jahre einem breiteren Publikum bekannt machte, kann anders als unter Bezugnahme auf die den Träumen oder dem freien Assoziieren eigene Ordnung kaum zusammengefasst werden. Zu sehen sind zunächst zwei Blinde: Eine alte Frau, deren silbernes Haar durch die Kamera zu einem paradoxalen Blond wird, legt jeden Tag den gleichen Weg zwischen dem Stall und ihrer Unterkunft zurück; ein kaum jüngerer Mann durchquert eine verlassene Industrielandschaft und erklimmt an Bord eines unwahrscheinlichen Pedalgefährts den Gipfel eines Hügels. Der dritte Protagonist ist eine Kuh, die ohne es zu wissen, dies aber vielleicht ahnend, der Schlachthof erwartet. Der Soundtrack ist voller Lücken und Stille und dem Knistern ferner Realitäten. Earth of the Blind ist der sanfte Zusammenstoss von Szenen, die in keinem Zusammenhang stehen und doch ein metaphysisches Gespräch entstehen lassen, das keiner Worte bedarf. Audrius Stonys ist im Kino «zuhause», der einzigen Kunstform, die uns die innere Welt von Mensch und Tier und die blinden Flecken ihrer Realität zu zeigen vermag.
