Der Filmemacher Oliver Laxe führt sein Team und eine Gruppe von Ravern tief in die Wüste, um seinen Spielfilm „Sirāt“ zu drehen. In der Enge seines Hotelzimmers in Marokko lastet etwas Unausgesprochenes auf seiner Brust, als Laxe sich für ein aufgezeichnetes Gespräch öffnet. Während die Dreharbeiten in der kargen Landschaft an Intensität gewinnen, beginnt der Film, die Beteiligten zu durchdringen.

Throughout his arduous journey through the desert and the years it took to make the award-winning Sirāt, Oliver Laxe was accompanied by the faithful and attentive Uberto Rapisardi, who captured the preparation and the shoot, as well as moments of solitary reflection, profound communion, discouragement and elation, creating a unique behind-the-scenes account that takes on a life of its own. At the heart of Vacío Luminoso is a dialogue between the two directors. Filmed during a break in the gruelling shoot, it sees Laxe looking back at the inspiration behind a project conceived over ten years earlier, while also addressing the doubts that plague him, as a kind of trial run for the Q&As that await him. Rapisardi is interested not only in documenting the working methods and emotional highs on set, which the film does brilliantly, but also in exploring the fine line between the representation of the rave scene and the risk of exploiting it, as well as the tension between the concrete constraints of film production and the radical spiritual freedom pursued by ravers.
