In the heart of the vast Beauce plains, strange phenomena are reviving memories of a local star: the Aérotrain. The ruins of this revolutionary 1960s invention, which were deliberately consigned to oblivion, still pierce the landscape of this region misleadingly called the “empty diagonal”. A small group of enthusiasts has formed an association to preserve the memory of its inventor, Jean Bertin, keeping alive what remains of this mode of transport that was meant to dominate the world. But one mystery remains unresolved in this story: Qui a tué l’Aérotrain (Who killed the Aérotrain)?
In collaboration with Les Amis de l’Ingénieur Jean Bertin, Théo Audoire (Ovan Gruvan, VDR 2022) creates a true crime thriller in which all leads – and all cinematic genres – are possible: from film noir to science fiction, from historical mockumentary to police thriller and even dreamlike fantasy, in which this industrial utopia could inspire us to imagine a more serene future. Through one inventive visual creation after another, Audoire succeeds in re-enchanting both cinema and the beautiful region of Beauce.
