Presented in world premiere at Visions du R\u00e9el 2026, where it received a Special Mention from the Burning Lights Competition Jury, The Case Against Space<\/a><\/em> by British filmmaker Graeme Arnfield won the 2026 Doc Alliance Award<\/a> for Best Feature Film today during the Doc Day Lunch at the March\u00e9 du Film of the Festival de Cannes. Many congratulations to director Graeme Arnfield, producer Boris Garavini and the whole team!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s jury brought together Wouter Jansen (CEO of Square Eyes), Maria Palacios Cruz (festival director of the Open City Documentary Festival), and film critic, filmmaker and producer Mark Peranson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Doc Alliance network of documentary film festivals supports emerging talent in European documentary cinema. Each of the seven member festivals \u2014\u00a0CPH:DOX<\/a>,\u00a0Doclisboa<\/a>,\u00a0DOK Leipzig<\/a>,\u00a0FIDMarseille<\/a>,\u00a0Ji.hlava IDFF<\/a>,\u00a0Millennium Docs Against Gravity FF<\/a>, and Visions du R\u00e9el \u2014 as well as guest festival Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival<\/a>, nominated one short and one feature-length documentary from their recent programmes. Each festival will showcase at least three films from the Doc Alliance Award selection in its next edition.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Feature Film: The Case Against Space<\/a><\/em><\/em> by Graeme Arnfield<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Doc Alliance Award for Best Feature Film<\/a>, endowed with 5,000 EUR, was presented to <\/strong>The Case Against Space <\/a><\/em>(UK\/France) by Graeme Arnfield. In the film, Arnfield reconstructs the world’s first strike in space in 1973\u2014based on transcripts of exchanges with the control center on Earth\u2014and paints an iconoclastic portrait of the astronaut as overworked labourer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le jury a salu\u00e9 un film qui \u00ab conjugue un important travail de recherche \u00e0 une interpr\u00e9tation sp\u00e9culative. Tout en s\u2019inscrivant dans la continuit\u00e9 du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent travail du cin\u00e9aste autour des images d\u2019archives, ce film marque \u00e9galement une nouvelle direction, tout aussi radicale. D\u2019une grande audace formelle, il adopte une esth\u00e9tique lo-fi claustrophobe qui met au premier plan les t\u00e9moignages humains. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhilst drawing on the filmmaker\u2019s previous work with found footage, this film represents a step in an equally uncompromising new direction. Formally bold, it commits to a claustrophobic lo-fi aesthetic that foregrounds the human testimonies,\u201d praised the jury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Short Film: Some of You Fucked Eva<\/a><\/em> by Lilith Grasmug<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Doc Alliance Award for Best Short Film<\/a>, endowed with 3,000 EUR, went to Some of You Fucked Eva<\/a><\/em> (France) by Lilith Grasmug\u2014the story of a typical cheerleader and the social and cultural landscape of an American high school, told through a montage of visual archives gathered from YouTube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll the images are sourced from pre-existing archive taken from the internet, and skilfully distorted and re-arranged to build an atmosphere steeped in teen angst. The film recalls cinematic conventions from high school movies to David Lynch, and manages to built a compelling and gripping story,\u201c stated the jury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond this, the feature-length documentary Fantasy<\/em> <\/strong>(Fantaisie | France) by Isabel Pagliai was awarded a Special Mention by the jury in recognition of the director\u2018s \u201cunique ability to create inedible and unforgettable images\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
