Swiss director Nicole V\u00f6gele with her feature film The Landscape and the Fury<\/em> and Camille Vigny with her short film Crushed<\/em> have been awarded by the Doc Alliance network. The film getty abortions<\/em> by Franzis Kabisch has also received a Special Mention.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We are pleased to announce that the two films nominated by Visions du R\u00e9el have won the prestigious 2024 Doc Alliance Awards<\/strong>. The winners were announced this evening during the awards ceremony at Docudays UA in Kyiv. The Doc Alliance network of documentary film festivals supports emerging talent in European documentary film. Each year, the seven member festivals \u2013 CPH:DOX<\/strong>, Doclisboa<\/strong>, DOK Leipzig<\/strong>, FIDMarseille<\/strong>, Ji.hlava IDFF<\/strong>, Millennium Docs Against Gravity FF<\/strong> and Visions du R\u00e9el<\/strong> \u2013 along with the guest festival, Docudays UA<\/strong> for 2024, select a short and a feature-length documentary from their previous programmes to compete for the Doc Alliance Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winning films were selected by a jury of three film professionals: Olivia Cooper-Hadjian, programmer and film critc (Cahiers du cin\u00e9ma), Beatrice Fiorentino, Artistic Director of Venice Film Critics\u2019 Week, and Marko Grba Singh, filmmaker and the Artistic Director at Beldocs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Feature Film: The Landscape and the Fury<\/em> by Nicole V\u00f6gele <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Best Feature Film Award, with a prize of 5000 euros, was awarded to\u00a0The Landscape and the Fury<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by Swiss director Nicole V\u00f6gele. Presented in world premiere at Visions du R\u00e9el 2024,\u00a0The Landscape and the Fury<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0also received the Grand Jury Prize in the International Feature Film Competition of the Festival.\u00a0The jury praised the filmmaker \u201cfor its bravery and a keen sense of solidarity combined with mesmerizing camerawork\u201d. \u201cNicole V\u00f6gele sheds light on a refugee crisis exposing the hypocrisies of global politics with a unique, warm distance between the filmmaker and the protagonists\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Short Film: Crushed<\/em> by Camille Vigny<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Crushed<\/strong> <\/em>by Camille Vigny, presented in world premiere at Visions du R\u00e9el 2024, received the Doc Alliance Award for Best Short Film, with a prize of 3000 euros. The jury honored Camille Vigny \u201cfor her audacity, her brilliant insight into the use of cinematic language, for her lucid elaboration of a personal trauma\u201d. \u201cEros and Thanatos defy the natural instinct of survival: smashed car sheets become the metaphor of potentially wounded bodies, danger shows its dark fascination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The short film getty abortions<\/strong><\/em> by Franzis Kabisch received a Special Mention by the jury. The film nominated by DOK Leipzig received the Golden Dove Short Film (German Competition Documentary Film) at last year’s festival edition. The jury highlighted the film’s \u201ccarefully crafted audio-visual narrative\u201d, with which the director tackles the important topic of the \u201ccrucial impact of media on the way we perceive ourselves\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Doc Alliance network of documentary film festivals supports emerging talent in European documentary film, by both helping bolster their position as artists seeking financial support for upcoming films and in helping their work reach new audiences. In addition, each festival in the network shows a selection from the 16 nominated films in its next edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
