Money makes the world go around. But how does it work? Who are the people that grant a credit line or give a loan? And how does money shape our discourse and the world we live in? Seven years after the great financial crisis that shook the banking system at its core and showed once again the world how thousands of people’s lives could be destroyed in a glimpse by a bad choice or malicious counsel, Sebastian Winkels’ film illustrates how the relation between bank and client has dramatically changed. Completely filmed inside the rooms where clients seek for advice, the film focuses on how the language used in these circumstances has been transformed. Careful questions by clients meet with overconfident or cautious answers from the bank consultants. Thus, Talking Money achieves a singular result: to show how, due to a specific linguistic shift, the relation between trust and capitalism has completely changed. A film that allows a peek behind the facades of modern banking. From Pakistan to Italy, Switzerland to Africa, a journey around the word trying to understand how money talks.
