New Zealand. The scientist Di Tracey explores the seabed in search of intact coral reefs that have survived the ravages of industrial fishing. The sound artist Bruce Russell, founding member of noise rock group The Dead C, strolls the streets of a town scarred by an earthquake (Christchurch in this case) in order to create a piece of improvisation that reflects his musings on the state of the world and on Western thought. The actor and poet David Hornblow treats his addiction with hypnosis in a retreat. Three wounded landscapes — nature, society, the soul —, three ways to approach them — science, art, spirituality — that embody three attempts to take root in the world. Carried along by tracking shots with meditative virtues, the three accounts are intertwined here by fluid cinematographic editing that affirms that everything is connected. The result is a speculative documentary in search of a new start in a world in which everything has to be rebuilt, and a unique and fascinating sensorial experience for its audience.
