In the mountains and lowlands of Kurdistan, young PKK guerilleras fight against the Islamic State. Immersed in their environment, the film shows us, in an emotional manner, the commitment of the Kurdish girls, their military training, and their wait for the enemy. Days go by. The battle approaches. Looks are exchanged. Sentiments also emerge in the desert of war... We have rarely seen a film that is so accomplished from the first image through to the last. The accuracy of this portrait of warring human- ity always hinges on the precision with which the director builds her shots. You have to observe the way in which she looks at the protagonists, always placed in the centre of the frame, and emphasises how the editing, which respects their breathing, also does justice to the political necessity of the struggle which is taking place. We thus understand that the fight of the Kurdish women is not confined to a geographical area, but that it incorporates a pedagogical project that seems almost “archaic” in its presuppositions and its humanist power. A revolutionary revelation.
