December 1st, 2012 at the 25th ceremony in Malta, the film Hiver Nomade, by Swiss film director Manuel von Stürler, wins the Best European Documentary Award 2012.

Winner of the Grand Prize SSA/Suissimage for the best Swiss feature film (all sections) at Visions du Réel 2012, HIVER NOMADE thus illustrates the springboard role of the festival.

Pascal and Carole, with 3 donkeys, 4 dogs and 800 sheep, drive over 600km, braving snow, main roads, villages and fiercely defended private estates.
The shepherds are constantly on the look-out, and there is little respite: this occupation certainly is no job for any Tom, Dick and Harry.

Visions du Réel: a springboard to nominations 
Two films presented at Visions du Réel 2012 were part of the three nominees for Best European Documentary at the European Film Awards:

Hiver Nomade by Manuel von Stürler, and Le Thé ou l'Électricité by Jérôme le Maire.

Previous winners: Nostalgia de la Luz by Patricio Guzman and Pina by Wim Weders
