To take a careful look at the world, such is the ambition of Visions du Réel, Festival international de cinéma Nyon. This ambition is emphasised by the poster for the 47th edition of Visions du Réel, which will take place from 15 to 23 April 2016. Foreshadowed by a careful look at new horizons, an image taken from the Chilean film The Lifeguard has been chosen to illustrate the next edition of the Festival.
A lifeguard hoists himself up on top of a beach hut to scan the horizon: in a few words, that is the setting offered by the new Visions du Réel poster.
This image evokes the ambition of the Festival: to take a careful look at the world. The films that we select all have something essential, something vital. The parallel with the figure of the lifeguard seemed a very apt allusion.
Luciano Barisone, Director of Visions du Réel
While the selection process for the next edition of the Festival is in full swing and will continue until the beginning of next year, the 2016 guest country of honour has already been revealed: cinema from Chile will be at the heart of the Focus section next April in Nyon.
As such, the choice of the 2016 visual focuses on an image taken from the film The Lifeguard (El Salvavidas) by the Chilean director Maite Alberdi, which will be shown as part of the Focus. While still at the planning stages, this film took its first steps at Visions du Réel 2011, as part of the Pitching du Réel activities. A journey awarded by various prizes in prestigious international festivals followed.
