Samir's fragmentary search for an identity

Encounter with a versatile author and a creative producer. Samir is invited to persent his work during the next edition of the Festival.

Samir has been making and producing features and documentaries since the 80s. His reflections on cultural identity led him to focus on 2nd generation immigrants in Switzerland (Babylon 2) and on Iraqi Jews in the diaspora (Forget Baghdad). In a formally fragmentary way, Samir's characteristic off-screen voice indicates the autobiographical starting point of his films which have a common denominator: they are all Iraqi, Swiss and Zurich-based. In this Atelier (workshop) Samir will be showing for the first time excerpts of his new feature documentary Iraqi Odyssey, in which he visits his widely dispersed family. Encounter with a versatile author and a creative producer.
