VISIONS DU RÉEL UNVEILS THE POSTER FOR ITS JUBILEE: 50 YEARS OF FREEDOM AND OPENNESS, 50 YEARS OF FILM
Visions du Réel, International Film Festival Nyon, is unveiling the poster of its next edition, which will be held from 5 to 13 April 2019. The new poster dares to make a nod to the past by offering a quirky interpretation of the 1969 visual. “Maintaining and strengthening the identity of the event are priorities for us,” says Claude Ruey, Executive President of the Festival.
The poster, chosen to illustrate the coming edition of the Festival, draws its inspiration from the one produced for its launch, in 1969. Devised by ARD SA (Vevey), it pays tribute both to the event and to the world of film. Visual and highly textured, the 2019 version proves to be hugely graphic, even slightly abstract.
By emphasising the grain of the image and the printing screen of the 1969 version, the new poster is wilfully retro, more intense and more complex. This deliberate choice echoes the prime objective of the Festival Visions du Réel, designed on the theme of freedom of expression and creation. As highlighted by its Executive President, Claude Ruey: “From the outset, Visions du Réel was intended to be open to creation and the most diverse creators, to unconstrained expression of speech and to the representation of humanity in all of its forms and through all of its perspectives.”
The idea to deconstruct the image of the past in order to reconstruct it demonstrates the coherence and relevance of the Festival yesterday, today and for the coming decades. Constantly seeking out new talents, the event will once again present a selection of new and notable works this year.
