52nd Solothurn Film Festival

Solothurn Film Festival highlights Visions du Réel's 2016 selection: 13 films presented during the Festival are screened again from 19 to 26 January.

The panorama programme is at the heart of the 52nd Solothurn Film Festival. This section presents the recent Swiss production of all genres and lengths: fictions, documentaries, short films and animation films.
Among the 41 Swiss documentaries presented to the public in this programme, 12 were unveiled as world premieres during the last Visions du Réel in 2016.
3 of them featured in the last palmarès of Visions du Réel: Calabria, Looking Like my Mother and Raving Iran. A great recognition of our Festival!

A detour by the Histoire du cinéma suisse and Upcoming sections will be the opportunity to (re)discover the documentaries Ella Maillart – Double Journey, presented as a world premiere at Visions du Réel 2015, and Hladivode – Cooling Waters, presented as a world premiere in the Premiers Pas section at Visions du Réel 2016.

Detailed schedules and complete programme of the 52nd Solothurn Film Festival (19 – 26 January 2017)

CALABRIA

World premiere at Visions du Réel 2016, section Compétition Internationale longs métrages

José, of Portuguese origin, and Jovan, a Serbian Roma, both work for an undertaker in Lausanne and have been instructed to transport the coffin of an Italian immigrant, who died in Switzerland, to Calabria. Pierre-Yves Sauter films a witty road-movie in a hearse, whose protagonists are aware of their differences but, above all, of their shared condition as uprooted people.

LOOKING LIKE MY MOTHER

World premiere at Visions du Réel 2016, section Compétition Internationale longs métrages

Over three generations, the filmmaker questions filiation and what it means to be a family. A purely cinematographic evocation, where the creative aspect opens up the field of memories to the representation of a world, a culture, a human, genetic or social transmission. Behind the film, behind the little history of the filmmaker, the history of Switzerland is sketched out.
