Docs in Progress Terms & Conditions – Edition 2018

Docs in Progress

Docs in Progress, as part of Visions du Réel Industry, presents eight projects/films in their finishing stage. After a pitch preparation, the visual material is screened for film professionals exclusively (festival representatives, distributors, TV buyers...) attending Visions du Réel. A networking coffee and individual meetings follow the presentation.

There is no registration or participation fee for this activity.

Selection criteria

We are looking for eight singular and original documentary projects, that combine artistic ambition and high visual quality with commitment for the subject and protagonists. We are interested in presenting a wide spectrum of practices and approaches. The projects should be intended as creative feature-length documentaries with theatrical potential on international markets and should address an international audience. They may be the work of an experienced or emerging director, based anywhere in the world.

Docs in Progress will take place during the Festival Visions du Réel on Tuesday 17 April 2018.

On Tuesday afternoon each film crew will introduce the project/film with a short pitch: Starting with a two sentence synopsis, you will announce which scenes are going to be shown. Ideally, these short scenes should be representative for the whole. You then will explain which stage the film project has reached right now, what still needs to be done and what the team is actually looking for. Afterwards you will show some further visual material, followed by a few questions by the moderator. Each team has up to twelve minutes to present their project including introduction and visual material.

After the presentation of all films/projects the film teams and film professionals will be invited to get together around a cup of coffee. Additionally, one-to-one meetings with interested professionals (festivals, distributors, TV buyers) as well as with marketing and distribution experts will be arranged both in advance and on site.

The selected projects' book will be published and sent by e-mail to film professionals before the Festival. During the Festival, the information will be available in printed form.

A list of the professionals attending the Festival as well as the individual timetable for each participant will be available two weeks before the Festival.

How to apply?

Please submit your project online in English. Longer texts such as treatment etc. may be sent in French, German, Italian, Spanish. Please send us a protected link to view the visual material (preferably) online or send us a DVD. Please provide the whole rough cut. We are also interested in your marketing and distribution strategy that might be of valuable help in preparing brief written explanations of the networking and individual meetings.

The information will be partly used for the project catalogue. The selected projects will have the opportunity to update the information in due time.

There is no registration or participation fee for this activity. However, travel, hotel and meals have to be covered by the teams. We are happy to assist you with logistics.

The selected projects will get two free Industry accreditations and additional accreditations at a reduced fee (allowing access all film screenings at the festival and the Media Library online as well as most Industry networking and training activities ; some may require a personal invitation)

Application Deadline

The registration form online must be completed and the visual material uploaded until the 15 December 2017.

The selected projects will be notified in February 2018.
