The Pine Barrens of New Jersey, within the most densely populated state in America, is a place where rare orchids grow near the sides of busy roadways, entire towns have shot up and faded to nothing; where north and south, rural and suburban, disruption and destruction all merge and contradict among individuals living off of the land, sharing legends and folklore that nearly vanished 40 years ago -- only to be saved by a work of creative non-fiction. Created as an evolving project exhibited over several years with musical accompaniment by The Ruins of Friendship Orchestra, the film chronicles a crucial turning point in the protection of the Pinelands that threatened to undo crucial legislation that has held back the tide of development. The Pine Barrens is now eligible for sales and distribution as well as festival screenings and special engagements with the live score -- a truly moving and unique experience.
